23rd Army Band

The 23rd Army Band

The 23rd Army Band was organized in 1924 to provide music for military ceremonies, formations, and activities.  Today, the band travels throughout Utah performing for official functions and community projects.

The band schedules a wide variety of services including parades, school assemblies, community concerts, military ceremonies, dances, clinics, funerals, recruiting engagements and government support. Notable past concerts include an annual patriotic concert in the historic Salt Lake Tabernacle, opening ceremonies for the Huntsman Chemical Senior Games, Utah State Fair, Summer Games in Cedar City, and patriotic concerts in various Utah cities. The band was recently featured with the Mormon Tabernacle choir at the Governor’s Inauguration and has concerts scheduled with the Utah Symphony and the 2002 Olympics. In 1992, the band traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia at the invitation of the mayor of St. Petersburg and the U.S. State Department. The band recently returned from Heidelberg, Germany where they spent two weeks supporting our soldiers returning from service in the Middle East.

The band supports numerous ceremonial events for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. Activities included the University of Utah ROTC graduation, various Changes of Command, the Annual Military Ball, and the Annual Veteran’s Day Concert – the largest celebration of its kind in the USA combining the band with a 700 voice high school choir.

The band is staffed by some of the state's finest musicians.  Because of our “part time” status, band members are also lawyers, accountants, teachers, law enforcement officers, counselors, bankers, space industry workers, medical researchers, aircraft industry workers, musical instrument repair specialists, professional musicians, and graduate students.
