About The Event

The Midvale Arts Council is very proud – and excited – to have live theater returning to the Midvale Performing Arts Center. Their returning show will be the comedy, “Robin Hood: The Legendary Comedy” running August 19, 20, and 21st. Showtimes will be at 7:30.

*Midvale Arts is requiring masks for every patron during this show regardless of vaccination status; thank you for your cooperation.*

“Robin Hood” was written nearly 30 years ago by Utah comedians Bob Bedore and Eric Jensen and has been performed all over the Western United States. It’s style targets laughs and jokes coming at you faster than a quiver of arrows.

“Our thought was always, if you didn’t laugh at that joke don’t worry, another one is coming in a few seconds,” said Bob Bedore who will be playing the part of the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and is the owner of Midvale’s improv comedy show, Quick Wits.

The play follows some of the familiar Robin Hood legend but also deviates into new ground, mostly for comedy’s sake. The show also leans heavily on the improv skills of the cast, many of whom preform in Quick Wits and other Utah improv comedy troupes.

“The cast is just so strong and we all have a lot of fun together,” said Eric Jensen, who plays the dim-witted Sir Guy of Gisborne. “We’re having as much fun trying to make each other laugh as we are getting laughs from the crowd. And the end result is very infectious.”

Joining Bedore and Jensen in the cast are Christopher Kennedy as Robin Hood, Kristina Wilson as Maid Marion, Clarence Strohn as Little John, Scott Macdonald as Friar Tuck, Blake Heywood as Sheik Hugh Boote, Jennifer Crabb as Lady Clydesdale, and Jillene Stark in various roles.

“It’s odd that this is actually the first show that Eric and I wrote together,” said Bedore, referring to the many shows that he and Eric wrote together when they were owners of Off Broadway Theatre. “Somehow it’s remained one of my absolute favorites and I still laugh pretty hard at jokes that we put in back in 1992.”

The show is appropriate for all ages and features a little something for everyone – including music and dance (though the cast is quick to point out that they won’t be getting any awards for either of their singing or dancing). The show is in a melodrama format which means audiences will “cheer” heroes and “boo” the villains.

With the reopening of the theater for shows, the Midvale Arts Council is giving a special rate on tickets for Robin Hood. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for children and seniors, and $3 for Midvale residents. They can be purchased online at midvalearts.com or at the door the night of the show. The Midvale Performing Arts Center is located at 695 W Center Street. *Masks are required for this event.*
